English translations are now being added to the posts. Originally they were added as comments, but those have been removed except when it would cause other comments to disappear with them.

Feel free to make comments of your own if you have questions or observations on the entries.

A very useful resource is The ARTFL Project's Dictionnaires d'Autrefois

I am keeping a reference of terms, people, places, etc. which I will add to as the entries are made. It owes a lot to Robert Lerouvillois's magnificent book, "un temps clair comme cristal", published by the Archives Départementale de la Manche (2002).

PLEASE NOTE: The volume that I am serializing began on the new year (March 25, 1553) and I got this bright idea in June. I have since backdated the posts to be on the same day of the year, as they are now several years old and no one cares. I will not attempt to correct for the Gregorian calendar change.

The journal has had a hiatus of over two years since I last worked on it, leaving off in May 1553 -- inspired by the KnoWoPerWriMo (Known World Persona Writing Month) I have taken it up again in November 1553. I may go back and fill in the missing bits some day.
